fighter jet mirage

Fighter Jet Mirage - The Dassault Mirage 5 is a French supersonic attack aircraft designed by Dassault Aviation in the 1960s and manufactured in France and several other countries. It is derived from Dassault's famous Mirage III fighter and has spawned several variants of its own, including the IAI Kfir. Pakistan's Mirage 5s are capable of delivering nuclear weapons.

The Mirage 5 grew out of a request from the Israeli Air Force to Dassault. Since the climate in the Middle East is bright and sunny most of the time, the Israelis propose to remove the avionics, normally located behind the cockpit, from the standard Mirage IIIE to reduce costs and maintenance, and to replace it with more fuel tanks for attack missions. .

It looked a lot like the Mirage III, except it had a long, drooping nose that extended the length of the plane by about half a meter. The pitot tube is distinctly moved from the top of the nose to below the nose on most Mirage 5 variants.

The Mirage 5 retained the twin DEFA cannons of the IIIE, but added two additional pylons, for a total of sev. Maximum war load was 4,000 kg (8,800 lb). The provision for the SEPR rocket engine has been removed.

The growing conflict in the Middle East led French President Charles de Gaulle to embargo Israeli Mirage 5s on June 3, 1967. Mirages continued to roll off the assembly line despite the embargo, and from 1968 a series was complete and the Israelis had secured the final payments. .

At the end of 1969, the Israelis, who had pilots in France to test the plane, requested that the plane be transferred to Corsica, in theory to allow flight training to continue during the winter. The French government became suspicious because the Israelis were also trying to acquire long-range fuel tanks and canceled the move.

Some sources claim that cooperation with France continued behind the scenes and that Israel received 50 Mirage 5 in cassettes from the French Air Force, while the French took more than 50 aircraft originally intended for Israel as Mirage 5F.

Like the Mirage IIIE, the Mirage 5 was popular with export customers, with various export variants fitted with a wide range of different avionics. While the Mirage 5 was originally intended for a clear weather attack role, with some avionics adaptations, it was reoriented to an air combat mission. As electronic systems became more compact and powerful, it was possible to provide the Mirage 5 with increased capacity, although the rear avionics compartment was removed, so in some subversions the result was a "rebuilt" Mirage IIIE ".

Reconnaissance and two-seat versions of the Mirage 5, with the designation Mirage 5R and Mirage 5D, respectively, were sold.

The Mirage 5 was sold in Abu Dhabi, Belgium, Colombia, Egypt, Gabon, Libya, Pakistan, Peru, Vezuela and Zaire, with the usual list of sub-variant badges and variations in the kit. Belgian aircraft were equipped with mainly American avionics, and some Egyptian aircraft were equipped with the MS2 attack avionics system from the Dassault-Dornier Alpha Jet.

In 1978 and 1980, Israel sold a total of 35 of its Neshers plus 4 Nesher trainers (Nesher Ts) to Argtin, where they were known locally first as Daggers and after their upgrade as Fingers .

As a measure of solidarity, the Peruvians transferred t of their Mirage 5Ps to Argentina, under the name Mirage Mara, to help mitigate the losses.

South Africa acquired five Nesher trainers for trials during its own Atlas Cheetah fighter program. All aircraft were eventually upgraded to Cheetah D standard.

In 1968, the Belgian government ordered 106 Mirage 5s from Dassault to re-equip Wing No. 3 at Bierset Air Base. All but the first aircraft were to be manufactured under license by SABCA in Belgium. The production of the components at the SABCA Hare plant near Brussels is followed by the assembly at the SABCA plant at Gosselies airport, near Charleroi. The ATAR engine was produced by FN Moteurs in the company's factory in Liège.

The SABCA production included three versions: the Mirage 5BA for the ground attack role, the Mirage 5BR for the reconnaissance role and the Mirage 5BD for training and conversion.

In the 1980s, Parliament agreed to the MIRage Safety Improvement Program (MIRSIP), which called for the upgrade of 20 Mirage (15 Mirage 5BA and 5 Mirage 5BD). Initial plans included a new, stronger gin, but this idea was abandoned to limit costs. The upgrade finally included a more modern cockpit, a new ejection seat, a laser rangefinder and canards to improve takeoff performance and overall maneuverability. The new government canceled MIRSIP, but SABCA was allowed to carry out the update, to sell the aircraft in the export market.

After the end, the Belgian government sold all 20 aircraft to Chile, along with 4 non-upgraded Mirage 5BR and one non-upgraded Mirage 5BD.

The new Atar 09K-50 engine was still an improvement, however, and the adaptation of this engine led to the next Mirage variant, the Mirage 50, in the 1970s. The improved engine gave the Mirage 50 better characteristics of take off and climb than its predecessors. Although the Mirage 50 also featured new avionics, such as the Cyrano IV radar system, it did not prove popular in export sales, as the first generation Mirage series had become obsolete.

Chile ordered a number of Mirage 50s, receiving two new production and upgraded Armee de l'Air Mirage 5s. The Chilean aircraft was later modernized based on the IAI Kfir as the AER Panther. The Pantera includes fixed canards and other aerodynamic improvements, as well as advanced avionics. These aircraft have an enlarged nose to accommodate several new systems.

Thrifty At 50: How The Pakistan Air Force Keeps Ageing Mirages Flying

In the early 1990s, Dassault upgraded the Vezuelana series of Mirage IIIEVs and 5s to Mirage 50 standards.

In 1982, Pakistan's Chief of Air Staff ACM (G) Anwar Shamim acquired an additional Mirage 5 squadron from France to provide effective support to the Navy.

During the 1990s, the PAF launched a Mid-Life Update (MLU) program, codenamed Project ROSE (Retrofit Of Strike Elemt), on its older Mirage III and Mirage 5 with modern avionics provided by the French, Italian and Pakistani software conglomerates. The PAF acquired the plane's plans from France, revised and redesigned them at the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex.

In the initial stages of the project, the PAF acquired 33 ex-Australian Air Force Mirage III fighters upgraded and designated ROSE I. The PAF acquired a surplus Mirage 5F in the late 1990s from the Army Air France in two batches. About 20 fighters of the first series were upgraded with new cockpits, navigation / attack suites, defense assistance systems and an advanced infrared radar (FLIR) under the nose / cockpit, designated ROSE II. The cockpits include new MFDs, HUDs, HOTAS controls, radar altimeters and RVRs.

In addition, there were 14 Mirage 5F fighters of the second series that were similarly upgraded, but with newer systems and designated ROSE III. FLIR ssors allow Mirage 5 ROSE fighters to specialize in the night attack role.

In February 2019, IAF jets violated Pakistani airspace and bombed a forested area in Balakot. As a result, Pakistan launched retaliatory airstrikes (Kodamed "Operation Swift Retort") against military installations in Indian-administered Kashmir. During the airstrikes, two Dassault Mirage-5PAs from 15 Squadron dropped their H-4 SOV glide bombs which were guided to their specific targets by weapons system officers sitting in the Dassault Mirage-IIIDA via a link of data. The operation was successful and the plane returned safely.

Mirage, any member of the family of fighter aircraft manufactured by the French aircraft company Dassault-Breguet. These relatively cheap, simple and durable aircraft have been adopted by many of the world's smaller air forces since the 1960s. The first Mirage aircraft was the single-engine Mirage III. This plane first took off in 1956, but then it had a significant development. One of its variants became a basic interceptor, another a fighter-bomber, and the third a reconnaissance aircraft. During the 1960s, the Mirage III was the primary air superiority fighter of the Israeli Air Force, and it performed spectacularly in the Six Day War of 1967. Other countries whose air forces adopted the Mirage III were Brazil, Lebanon, South Africa, Argentina, Pakistan, Spain, Australia and Switzerland.

The export version of the Mirage III, called the Mirage 5, was adapted for ground attack and equipped with simplified avionics. The first flight in 1967 and was sold to Belgium (in a co-production agreement), Pakistan, Peru, Colombia, Libya, Abu Dhabi and Venezuela. The Mirage F-1, a multirole fighter developed as a replacement for the Mirage III in the French Air Force, entered service in 1973. This aircraft did not have the delta wing design that characterized all Previous mirages. The F-1 was bought by Greece, Morocco, South Africa, Spain, Jordan and Iraq, among other countries. U
